I’m here serving our community in a different way now. This put me on a path to opening the pro shop and going for my dream. I ran the business on the side from a tiny 12×16 shop in my driveway, while still doing my day job until COVID mandates caused me to lose my job in October of 2021. My entire state had gone into lockdown for COVID 19 just 4 days earlier. I started my shop and was issued my business license on March 27th, 2020. We all bought new bows and I got to see how a real shop operates. We had to drive 500 miles but I knew it was gonna be worth it. We didn’t really have any good shops in our area and in 2020 I took some friends to the best shop I knew of. I bought all of my own equipment and watched You Tube videos and just spent time working on bows and arrows and learning, I’m still learning. I guess I got pretty good at it because before long the guys wanted me to fix there arrows and tie D loops on there bows and so on. I read books on tuning and shooting and making my own arrows. It wasn’t long before my urge to be able to stretch the distance and be more accurate led to me tuning my own bow. I still can drive you straight to our favorite stumps. Finally one of the guys attached a piece of wire that hung down from the sight scope with whiteout marks on it so he could have a pin for longer distances. We all knew how far the top of the bubble level on the sight was, but it still wasn’t getting you far enough so you’d just hold the bubble above the targeta little….sometimes an awful lot. Of course none of us had a pin for that, so it was good ol Kentucky elevation. It wasn’t long and the stumps went from 50 or 60 yards to 120 yards. Then we would pick a small spot to aim for and see who could get closest. Everyone would guess how far and then we would range it to see who was the closest. We would get out of the truck and spot a target. We hardly covered any ground scouting because we were always playing “the game”. Friends and I would go out scouting and the bows always went with us. I bought cheap Cabela’s arrows and borrowed a release. Meaning it came with everything you needed to shoot except arrows and a release. Shoot it was early season and we were seeing 15+ bucks per day and never saw another hunter. My buddies were bowhunting and I started going with them.
